a new line.....

****keep reading, there is a prize involved!********
twice a year, i get to design a line of paper for a scrapbook company called dream street papers. i like to name each line after someone important to me in my life. this time i chose the name CARMA - my mother-in-law's first name. she is a very important person to me, not only for the wonderful grandma she is to my children, but most importantly because she raised the most important person to me in my life, my sweet matt. i LOVE her for raising a wonderful man, and 5 other wonderful children that i not only call family, but also dear friends. if i could use one word to describe carma lee, it would be BRIGHT - thus the collection of bright colors in this line. all of my lines thus far have been created to fill a need. i wanted a cute zebra pattern, and couldn't find one...so here is what i came up with! this line was so fun to work with! hopefully you will see it in a store near you! if not, tell your store you WANT it!!!

also, now is the time for me to start my next line...but i'm a little stumped, so this is where the prize comes in. i want everyone to leave me a comment of what you would LOVE to see in your local scrapbook store that is not already there. at the end of july, i will put all the names of the people who comment on my blog into a bowl and pull out 2 winners. i will send you a goodie box full of dream street stuff! also, if you leave more than one comment, your name will go in the drawing for as many ideas as you leave! thanks, and i look forward to hearing what you are wishing to have! check back on july 21st for the winner!

i took these pictures of my neighbor's baby

I have to say this may just be my favorite line you've done yet! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the colors & I think the ethic quality is awesome! Plus you know a girl loves her animal print!

As far as paper I need & can never find because it doesn't really exist here are my thoughts at the moment.

I know this is becoming popular, but nothing is hitting the mark for me yet.

White on White.

For things like weddings, blessings, christenings or baptisms. I would love to see a damask that is white on white or something that looked like it was done with embroidered ribbon, have you seen how gorgeous that is?!

Good luck!!

I love the new line, Lara! It's beautiful and bright and well named. :) I especially love the red print. So cute!

Your family picture on the beach is adorable, too. I can't believe how big Jack and Gracie are getting. We can't wait to see you guys again!

Kristi said...

GORGEOUS! Your next line should be named Kristi. :o) Just kidding. I'll think of something brilliant later and leave a comment about it. I love this line. It's gorgeous.

Sarah Britt said...

I love it too! The name, the colors! It is great. I really like the za za zing. Too cute.

Ok for your next line I would LOVE to see some really cute little boy designs. I find when I go to the craft store there is always just a small section for boys and there is always tons of flowers, pink polka-dots, etc. Which is all great but I sometimes have a hard time finding paper for my boys. So if you could design that for me it would be so great! LOL Thanks and good luck!

oh my goodness, what a fabulous chance, every girl's dream to be able to ask for something she's always wanted to scrapbook with, right? and btw, that is so cool that you design these papers, you rock, you're pretty much my hero!!
Okay, so I echo the first gal on the white on white, or I was thinking more cream on cream, that would be beautiful for some more elegant themed projects...

anyhow, but I also have always a wanted a company to do a hippy-ish kit with more earthy/muted colors... Companies always do the tie-dye/groovy theme with bright colors but I'd love to see a tie-dye, batik, nature-loving earthy kit, for the "flower child" in us all, I am having a baby girl in November and would love to do some pages for her with just such a kit!! Yay!
Good luck with your next line, if I think of any more fun ideas I'll come back and comment again for sure! take care!
Will you be attending CHA this week? I'd love to meet you!

This is lovely! I'm totally getting my local store to buy this...I teach at the store, so I would love to use this in a class.

I would like to see some sort of "Americanna", red, white, and blue line that isn't only stars and stripes....I can't find just red and blue any more...all the colors are too different, and I like the classics.

I also echo Sarah about the boy line, I have 3 boys and there is just no boy paper!!! Maybe you could incorporate the red and blue into some more masculine paper. Good luck!

Micah and BriAnne said...

Laura, you are so talented! Seriously! I'm sad to read that two people wrote that they wanted more boy stuff, but I would actually really like that too...just more masculine papers, you know? But another cool thing would be to have a total Disney theme...ya, I'm a Disney freak I'm afraid! haha!

It looks beautiful!

Carma Lee said...

Thanks! What a sweet compliment you gave me. I love the bright, fun and cheery look of my "namesake" line of paper. It's a great joy being your other mother. Matt couldn't have done better - bright, talented (in about a million ways!), beautiful, faithful, thoughtful, and an absolutely terrific wife and mommy! Love you tons!!

Love, Love, Love the new line!! So fun!! I would love to see more dimensonal ABC stickers in stores (like a thickers style) but matching abc's for Dream Street would be great too!

bassetsnbrits said...

Love the colors and I love how you choose the names of your lines! I've often wondered how designers come up with the names!

In my LSS I would also love to see more boy stuff, not baby, not teen, paper for the years in between.

bassetsnbrits said...

Oh, and since you said we could post more than once, what I would really, really like to see is a pet line that isn't 'cutsie' or all bones or paws. Something with some distressing maybe. I have show photos I like to scrap and all the dog themed stuff out there just doesn't seem to go well with those types of photos.

just jennifer said...

Hey Lara! I've missed you since CI.... Love the new line, can't wait to get it! I'd like to see a new line geared towards the tween girls... not exactly sure what that would entail but not necessarily so girly... a little bit tomboyish. Clear as mud? You could name it TiQui :) LOL

Karen said...

Great stuff! I would love to see some dimensional stickers for the Dream Street line.

Terri said...

Beautiful papers Lara and congrats Carma! I would love to see more modern mature papers for women. Kewl papers for the second part of a mom's life after the kids are grown and out of the house. Something to ponder. Thanks.

RobinV said...

I would love to see more sparkly papers and Alpha's. Can't get enough of them.

Linda F. said...

So pretty ! I would love to win some to play with!

Peggy said...

congrats on the line! and lucky you having such a wonderful mother-in-law!

I would like to see more pp with a bit of bling in it. I have a "princess" granddaughter and only bling will do!

Renee said...

Love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

ScrapMomOf2 said...

LOVE IT! Gorgeous colors! This might sound kinda silly, but I really just love things that tie into WHAT I scrapbook -- birthdays, holidays, and especially school! Also, my girls are in band, and band stuff is just so BORING! School and band is a huge part of their lives, and yet, scrapping it is difficult sometimes. Just a thought.

Benga said...

very unique patterns, the zebra pattern and the spotty are my favorites

for a new line, I'm looking forward to a mix of vibrant colors and lots of texture.

Scrap Evangel said...

Pur-dy stuff. I would love to win some!

wendipooh13 said...

sooo fun, love the colors, the design and the patterns!!!! totally soo me, and love how cute it is

Liza said...

Congratulations on the new line!! I love all the PPs! The col are truly Gorgeous!! I love what you've created with the PPs!! Wow!!

I normally scrap about my son so I would love to see bright coloured boy double sided co-ordinated PPs. PPs with "croppable" images would also be Great! OO and B&W classic PP are wonderful too!

BlairE said...

I LOVE these papers! Anything that has to do with animals goes right into my shopping cart.

Being the mother of boys, I'd really like to see more boy embellishments--specifically, stuff that can take the place of flowers, say if I were working off of a sketch. Stars are good, but there's gotta be more...

Zarah said...

Beautiful line + beautiful LOs!!

What I really NEED right now is more alphas with stamps. Preferably ones I can colour in, myself! Not chipboard - something sleeker.

I'd love it if there were stickers with matching alpha stamps - and some patterns too, to mix it up.

Big packs would be awesome - and basic colours like white, craft, brown, black and grey.

I could design the PERFECT title that way and that'd be awesome!

Kerttu said...

love the red, lovethe blue, love the green ones...i simply LOVE these papers. Desing and colors are just gorgeous:)Can't wait to get my hands on these.

I would like to see some fun papers;line for traveling..i love the MM pasport line but i'm looking for something more.

Jocelyn said...

These colors are just what I adore! Can't wait to get my hands on them! Love all your designs and wonderful talent!

Colleen said...

Beautiful papers. Going to get some of them for sure.

I would like to see something with a 50s style paper in the stores.

salme said...

Great name for your line! Awesome designs, especially love Chamomile!

I would love to see papers with "cute cartoony" boys and girls which I can cut out later on.

sherry d said...

Love the name of your line! Great papers!

Now, what to see in a paper line that is different than what's been out there - I'm always looking for boy/male papers. There's just not nearly enough of them as there are for girls. I'd like to see more boy papers with texture on them - flock, foil, glitter, embossed designs, puffy paint-like dimension - something that makes it pop and something to feel.

Your papers are the greatest, and so are your layouts. I just found your blog and will have to come back often. I love Country French, and would love to see a Country French coordinating line --- flowers, flourishes and maybe Toile.

Lea L. said...

Wow...very pretty paper line! So bright and vibrant!

I would love to see a rainbow themed paper collection. Add in some cute shapes...I would love it!

Linda Beeson said...

Wow did you ever make a great choice on your wonderful color scheme! I'm so thinking that I better find this line in my LSS. For something else I would like to see if a baby boy line that is baby boyish without being all washed out blues and too babyish.

Love the line and the story behind the name. Well the next line to come out will be in January so with that in mind I would love to see spring papers for boys that aren't 'punky' or rock star like. And not little boy stuff. Universal age conservative type...but not too classical. Is that clear as mud?

scrapbooking for others said...

I "need" a Dream Street Paper collection that is for Halloween. The colors purple, green, black and orange but with your design style in it.

oh...i will certainly be buying this. i absolutely LOVE it!

i wish my LSS would let me test inks before i buy them. i buy a lot of inks to find the perfect shade of red...

I wish LSS/kit clubs would offer more boy paper. I have been able to use girly stuff on layouts from my childhood by with 2 boys I find my selection limited

Crystal said...

I love you paper line and how you name your lines so creative and sweet.

Janelle said...

i just LOVE the colors of this line, i love the names of the papers-- and i LOVE that you name your lines after special people.

now what i would liek to see more of is a line JUST for little boys. not themed, just generic patterns, but that SCREAM boy at you--- no flowers and hearts.

Caralee said...

Holy Cow! I can't believe how many comments there are. I love this line! So fun and very appropriately named ;) If I scrapbooked these days I might have a suggestion but oh well. I'm sure whatever you do will be perfect.

Megan A. said...

gorgeous! just love this!

I would just love to HAVE a LSS !

Sandie said...

GREAT line! And I LOVE the name!

What do I want to see? I love cut paper. Paper that is shaped. I can't get enough of paper that is shaped.

Sandie said...

Ok. One thing I'd like to put a request in for... is boy stuff. Sometimes the pattern paper industry is behind in boy materials. They are like boys clothing used to be years ago. Dark blue and dark green. Or trucks etc. My son is none of those. He wears a lot of reds and oranges, and light and bright colours. I'd love to see some of these representing boys. And not have it so stereotyped.

Heather said...

I have been scanning the invetory here at our studio I've thought of another thing I really haven't seen a good version of yet...

A Birthday Party Line.

Nothing cheesy but something that could be used for adults and children alike!

Becky said...

oh my gosh what a gorgeous line!

Something I would love to see would be more young adult (16-19) aged paper. My son is just tired of the flowers...lol...he wants something fun that screams teen adult

justyne said...

GREAT LINE! I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME GREAT 80'S DESIGN PAPER! FLAVORFUL COLORS, FUNKY DESIGNS, FRESH IMAGES... WITH YOUR TALENT... IT'S SO REACHABLE!

ANOTHER THING ID LOVE TO SEE IS OLD SCHOOL NURSERY RHYMES SAYINGS & IMAGES WITH A LITTLE PAZZAZ ADDED!! YOU KNOW LIKE... "HUMPTY DUMPTY" OR "GOLDIE LOCKS"

What can I say but...gorgeous! Love the colors!

Those are fantastic!!!!

I would love to see more boy themed paper! never enough for the poor little guys!!! trucks, robots, outerspace, and of course dinos!!!!
I'm thinking that later gator would work well with My son playing with his dino collection!!!

I am totally in love with your new line!! The colors are awesome and I can't wait to play with it!! You dream street gals are going to cost me some serious cash-ola this season!! :)

I know it isn't a very original comment, but I have hard time finding boy stuff that I like. More stripes and plaids would make me happy!

Love these!'

I'm always looking for farm/nature related stuff & horse stuff that's not western - just horsey!

scrappin_in_AK said...

Love this line - the colors and design.
I would love to see more papers with smaller designs in a bold color combo

Beautiful rich colors like these in small designs on kraft paper!

Yvette said...

great collection...perfect for the fall time in the midwest!!

Leslie said...

Seriously...I don't think I know a more talented person. How in the world does one decide to design scrapbook paper? Keep it coming...you are full of talent. I'd buy it.

Bobbi said...

its all so awesome-you guys rock

Beth Warren said...

Love the new line, congrats

I agree with the person re pets line that isn't too cutesy (and also horse themed not western).

I'd also love to see paper for women who are young and single, no kids. I'm not crazy about papers with designs in the corner...I like to layer papers, and it's hard to do as I don't want to cover up the only design...I like the pattern to cover the whole page. Maybe something with funky flourishes, too?

stinker said...

Beautiful new line! I especially like the animal prints tucked in there :)

I'd like to see more teen boy stuff. There is getting to be more and more in the stores, but I want more. And less grungy. Grunge is good, I dig grunge, but not alllllll the time.

Allison Cope said...

Congrats on a gorgeous line of stunning papers!

As far as what I'd love to see in my LSS... I'd love to see more smaller print papers with distressed papers in fall colours. I love the damask look and would love to see a smaller print version!

Good luck with your next release!

Beautiful Fall colors, way out there patterns, and they all go together beautifully!

Heather said...

I thought of something else. This is not out there anywhere to my knowledge!

Something collegiate! Maybe a new twist of argyle or a plaid. In masculine, burnt colors maybe lots of deep golds, midnight, ruby & pine.

Think "Warner" from Legally Blonde & penny loafers! Oh how I wish they were back in style lol!!!

SusieScrapper said...

Loving what I'm seeing! Great colors and beautiful line.

Michele Beck said...

i am in love with this one !!!! love yours layouts !

kez said...

Ooh, these papers are beautiful- I love what you've done with them.

As for future products, how about a range along the lines of heritage, but which are funkier, maybe more vintage-y and a little more vibrant. I find many heritage ranges very 'flat' and uninspiring- maybe you could turn this around!

denean said...

Totally beautiful papers!! LOVE the colors!

I would just like to have a LSS!!

Shawnsgirl315 said...

These papers are great. I can think of so much I can do with them. For something new, I would love to see a little boy (not baby, more toddler/early school) that is not baby blue and not themed. Maybe just patterned with boyish color combos. Also more papers that have a feel or depth to them.

I would love to see more stuff to work with labs - there are so many dog themed lines out there, but they seem to focus on the little yippy dogs. I have two girlie black labs and I would love to see some really fun stuff that I could use for them! This is a great line!

Drika said...

Wow!

I would love to see some boy themed paper...

I love your new line!!

Thanks

Heather said...

I guess I'm full of more ideas than I thought lol!

When I was drifting off to sleep last night the image of these ridiculously priced Pottery Barn towels I'm dying for popped into my head. It would be rockin to see a line that was inspired by them. They are the ones that were inspired by Morocco! I could see this line or the last I mentioned being named after your Dad!!

Heather said...

EEK! Ok I thought of another idea as I was posting my last one.

What about something musical for Jake. Something rad. There are so many lame music type papers out there!! You could do something awesome that is a little bit country/bluegrass & a lot rock n roll!

Kelly (a.k.a. str8cutter) said...

Love the zebra print and the blue and brown.

Beth Warren said...

I'd also love to see more smaller-size prints (and not ones with patterns only in corner or bottom of paper - I like it covering entire paper), and maybe more doodling. Prefer just cute designs that can be used with any theme, rather than themed papers. Also if you do a new dog-themed line, include one paper with funky or doodled wings on it or something that can be used for layouts memorializing pets that have passed away.

Marcia said...

wow- great line. So dif from what I'm used to seeing!

okay - um, this new line is totally awesome. love the bright fun colors! :)

Wow, I wish I could just ooze a little of your talent...congrats on the beautiful paper!
Ya know, I'm always looking for something subtle for my travel pictures, but not so corny with street signs and maps in the background. Something that doesn't take away from the photos but doesn't make the layout look cheesy either. Perhaps with some asian influence...who knows?

Tricia said...

I love the name you gave this new line. So thoughtful and inspiring! The color combos are beautiful! Great work here! Can't wait to use them!

I think that I would like to see more black, white and grey patterns or more paper sack colored papers (that brownish color). I love the neutrals.

Chrys said...

Love how you name your lines after vip's in your life! Great line btw!!!

as for things I'd like to see....well since my sis in law just got married over the weekend, I'd love to see more wedding stuff....And since I have two boys, I'd like to see more boy colors....and NOT just toddler/baby stuff, there's that alreay, but something for boys that are 6 through 11. One color I'd like to see more is navy blue or dk. blue.

Heather said...

Love the new stuff -- especially the za za zing! I would love to find in my LSS papers for girls that are for the 5-10year old set -- I am sick of flowers.

Congratulations on your new line - it's absolutely gorgeous!

NanaBeth said...

Another one-mature masculine. This could be really great with a craft background also. I like the collections where you have just 1 large design on a page coupled with papers that have designs all over. You have such rich, deep colors in the new line-I just love it.

Heather said...

Love the Carma line!!!!

I'd love to see a baby boy line that was more than just baby blue coloured papers or the baby girl line done in pink. There are some out there, but not enough. The baby boy lines seem to be more limited than the girl lines. Maybe a line that was baby boyish yet with a masculine flair - not just cutesy.

Jennifer said...

Lovin' those colors!!

Bobbi said...

LOVE the new line-loving the muted aged looking colors!! I love anything antiquey looking-I'd like a lot of stuff that looks like vintage wallpapers-not necessarily all florals-but that's the quality I like. I'd also like to see some vintage colored alphas out there-bright pink doesn't go with antique ledger papers :)

(ledger papers as the reverse side of papers is always good too :) )

Shelley Goodman said...

Hi, you don't know me but my friend said i should check out your blog. Also Carma is in my parents ward and my sis-in-law is engaged to your cousin.

I have been trying to track down a paper with all different colors of yellow in it with maybe a little white on it as well. Like a cute paisley print, argyle or flowers would be cute. Those are the colors of my room and I can't find ANYTHING like that ANYWHERE. All the yellow paper I can find have to many different colors on it.

I also can't find a cute camo paper with maybe pink in it for girls and blue or orange for a boy.

Love that you name your lines after people dear to you. I too, have a Jack and of course had to have that line.

As far as what I would like to see.
New boy lines soemthing not to young and nothing with skulls.

Cassandra/jaikaya_2000@yahoo.ca said...

Love your line.
What I am always looking for are papers with more of an African theme with all those bold and deep rich colors like orange, brown, green, and red. With different designs inspired by safaris, masks, and clothing.

Stacy said...

I love the background story you included about how you pick the name of your lines, but more importantly the details about how you love your mil. I got chills reading it.

I so appreciate you asking us what we would like to have in your next line that you are developing. I have 2 boys, 4 and 1, and I would love to see more boy themed lines. I can always find "baby boy" and of course teenage boy with the skulls, etc. I would love to see just the playful, adventurous, curious, exploring boy. Maybe some great orange, yellow, tealish, and red hues.
